In the face of standards such as Common Core, use of formative assessments on a micro and iterative level with K-12 students is critical to achievement of those final mastery objectives. Effective and frequent assessments have been shown to be a cornerstone of a successful "backward design" effort to achieve learning objectives.

Using resources (such as videos and games) in the flipped or blended classroom is of course becoming more prevalent. What has not yet been widely discussed or explored is how using resources is a great way to provide the payoff from determining knowledge gaps from formative assessments.
